Title: Submit to God, Resist the Devil

Scripture: James 4:7 (KJV) – “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

In James 4:7, we are presented with a simple yet profound directive: “Submit yourselves, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” These words encapsulate a powerful principle for living a life of spiritual victory and freedom.

That is what we all want, isn’t it!

Firstly, James calls us to submit ourselves to God. This act of surrender involves acknowledging God’s sovereignty, authority, and lordship over our lives. It requires humility, trust, and a willingness to yield our desires, plans, and ambitions to God’s will, knowing that He always has our best interests at heart and also knows the best way to realise them. When we submit to God, we align ourselves with His purposes and open ourselves to His guidance, provision, and protection in our lives.

Secondly, James instructs us to resist the devil. As followers of Christ, we are engaged in a spiritual battle against the forces of darkness. The devil seeks to deceive, tempt, and destroy us, but we are not powerless against his schemes. By standing firm in our faith, wielding the weapons of prayer, Scripture, and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can resist the devil’s advances and overcome his attacks.

The promise of James 4:7 is that when we submit to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us. The devil may come against us, but he cannot prevail against the authority of God and the power of Christ within the submitted believer. As we draw near to God in obedience and faith, the devil’s hold in our lives diminishes, and we experience the freedom and victory that come from walking in alignment with God’s truth and righteousness.

Today, let us heed the exhortation of James 4:7. Let us submit ourselves wholeheartedly to God, trusting in His wisdom and goodness. And let us stand firm against the devil’s schemes, knowing that in Christ, we have the strength and authority to overcome every obstacle and emerge victorious from every battle the enemy brings our way.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the powerful reminder in James 4:7 that we are not powerless in this life, but that through submission to You and resisting the devil we can take the territory of our lives one foot at a time. Help us to surrender ourselves completely to Your will and to stand firm against the enemy’s attacks. Fill us with Your Spirit and equip us with Your Word, so that we may walk in victory and experience the freedom that comes from living in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
